FSC assisting flood-impacted Australians to find lost life insurance policies

The Financial Services Council (FSC) is urging anyone impacted by the ongoing floods who cannot find their life insurance documents to make contact.

The FSC is directing anyone who has lost important documents and are unsure which company their life insurance is with to its website.

“The FSC can help flood victims find lost life insurance by contacting its life insurance members and asking them to check their records and to contact the person if they have a policy or other relevant information,” the FSC said this week.

“The FSC recognises that many people have lost important records and documents in the floods and trying to find lost life insurance policies can be a headache for people at a time when they don’t need more stress.”

On Tuesday, 8 March, the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) revealed that to date, insurers have received 96,844 claims related to the flooding in South-East Queensland and NSW.

“Insurers are prioritising those customers whose situation is the most severe to support them getting back on their feet as soon as possible,” ICA CEO Andrew Hall said.

“This means it may take a few weeks for insurers to start the assessment process for less severe claims, but those customers can be assured their insurer is there to support them.”
