MetLife Australia has been revealed to be the only life insurance company listed as an inclusive workplace in a survey conducted by Diversity Council Australia (DCA).
In its Inclusion@Work Index for 2021 – which surveys staff about awareness, engagement, inclusive organisation, inclusive leadership, inclusive team and exclusion in the workplace – MetLife was the only insurer named in the latest index.
The life insurer said the news reflects the work the company has put in to increase diversity and ensure an inclusive experience for all staff, including the implantation of gender-inclusive bathrooms, parents’ rooms and reshaping recruitment processes.
In September, MetLife launched a policy and action plan aimed at supporting and promoting the mental health and wellbeing of its employees.
The policy was based on a series of goals including increasing employer knowledge and awareness of mental health issues and behaviours; reducing stigma around depression, anxiety and suicide; and encouraging participation in initiatives that support mental health and wellbeing.
“This recognition by DCA is testament to our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion at MetLife,” chief executive Richard Nunn said.
“We’re thrilled to be listed among some of Australia’s leading and most progressive workplaces. This recognition validates the real and meaningful steps we’ve taken to enable our people to bring their whole selves to work and really thrive.
“We know there is more to be done and we’ll use the insights from the Inclusion@Work Index to continue to build MetLife into a leading workplace and life insurer.”
