The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) has unveiled a new insurance education model that allows for a better work-life balance and understanding of concepts.
The new education model will replace traditional semester-long study periods with condensed four- to six-week units that focus on required industry skills, ANZIIF says.
ANZIIF said the new units – which include audio, visual and interactive tasks – can be completed online.
To pass a unit, students must successfully complete an interactive real world scenario they are likely to face in their day-to-day work life by analysing a situation, interacting with a virtual consumer and solving a problem to the satisfaction of the insurer and insured, the organisation said in a statement.
Units have also been mapped to insurance roles and experience levels for students who want more direction in their learning.
ANZIIF chief executive Prue Willsford said the education body consulted with industry to identify issues that organisations felt weren’t served by traditional education offerings.
“The competencies taught in existing education options weren’t aligned to what the industry actually needed and that study took too long in a market where the ability to adapt quickly is crucial,” Ms Willsford said.
“With traditional development pipelines being eroded, the industry told us it needed a way to fill talent gaps and upskill employees in a timely and effective manner. Our new offering provides that.”
More than 140 units will be progressively rolled out in the next 18 months.
