The high-net-worth advice specialist firm has appointed two former Perpetual advisers to shore up its philanthropic client offerings at its Melbourne and Brisbane offices.
JBWere has appointed David Hurley as a senior wealth adviser at the Brisbane office and Anthony Hamawi as director of philanthropic services based in Melbourne.
Hurley brings a wealth of experience to the role, having been a part of the financial services industry for 13 years developing a specialisation in working with non-profit and wholesale investors, delivering tailored governance and investment advice that closely aligns with their values.
Prior to joining JBWere, Hurley was an associate partner at Perpetual in Melbourne and Brisbane for more than seven years, delivering investment advice to a range of non-profit and private clients across Australia. In this role, he developed a particular focus on crafting long-term investment strategies that consider environmental, social and governance (ESG) values.
Speaking on his appointment, Hurley said he is excited to commence the next phase of his career with JBWere.
“Throughout my career, I have always looked to partner with organisations with whom I feel our values are aligned. JBWere’s trusted brand has always stood out to me as a competitor and I am looking forward to being able to work alongside some incredibly talented individuals,” Hurley said.
“Today’s families and NFP organisations demand a high quality, dynamic investment service, supported by world-class investment research.
“I believe JBWere is leading the way in Australia in providing an institutional grade investment offering to clients, while bringing to bear a range of treasury, governance, philanthropic and fundraising support to add broader value to client relationships.”
Hamawi, JBWere’s new director of philanthropic services, is also joining the firm from Perpetual, previously holding the title of national manager in the community and social investment team.
In his prior role, Hamawi managed and grew Perpetual’s for-purpose client service activities, focusing heavily on governance, financial expertise and fostering collaborations to promote social responsibility and sustainable outcomes.
Hamawi said JBWere’s reputation for working with “for-purpose” organisations made the firm an ideal fit.
“Beyond JBWere’s stellar investment management performance, I am inspired by the unwavering commitment to purpose, capability and excellence,” Hamawi said.
“Their clear focus on governance, capacity building and providing tailored strategic advice not only empowers and drives success for these organisations but also supports their purpose and mission.”
JBWere Advice executive Andrew Bird said it was a pleasure to welcome Hurley and Hamawi to the team.
“Over our 185-year history, it has always been the calibre of our people, our insights and our network that has allowed us to ensure we continue to meet the evolving needs of our diverse group of clients,” Bird said.
“I have no doubt Anthony and David are dedicated to upholding this legacy, focusing on for-purpose, intergenerational family and philanthropic clients.”
