Mercer welcomes Pacific chief risk and compliance officer

The role commences February 2023.

Mercer has announced the appointment of Norlena Brouwer as chief risk and compliance officer, Pacific.

Ms Brouwer will oversee the Pacific region’s risk and compliance function, supporting the firm in the safe delivery of objectives for the benefit of clients, members and the business.

She assumes the position with over 15 years of experience in risk and compliance in the financial services sector, including superannuation and banking.

Before joining Mercer, Ms Brouwer served as group executive for risk and compliance at Hostplus and had been with the fund since 2014.

Mercer’s president for the Pacific region and CEO, Australia, David Bryant, said that Ms Brouwer’s appointment will support the asset management firm’s ongoing commitment to best practice risk and compliance management as it enters the next phase of growth.

“The changing regulatory environment, and indeed the changing nature of our industry, only highlights the increasing importance of robust risk and compliance practices,” Mr Bryant said.

“Norlena has a strong track record in risk management, which will be invaluable to our business. This is even more important as we progress our strategic growth agenda; first and foremost being the transition of BT Super into the Mercer Super Trust in early 2023, which will see us servicing over 850,000 members.”

“We are delighted Norlena will be joining us to lead our Pacific risk and compliance team,” he concluded.

Ruby Yadav, formerly chief risk and compliance officer, has moved into the role of Mercer Pacific’s superannuation services CEO.
