The new appointment will commence later this year.
Attorney-General, Michaelia Cash and Assistant Minister to the Attorney-General, Amanda Stoker, have announced Timothy Beresford as the new chief executive of the Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA).
Mr Beresford, who has also been named as Inspector‑General in bankruptcy and registrar of personal property securities, will start the five-year appointment from 2 May 2022.
Mr Beresford is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and has worked as deputy chief executive of global client services at Austrade since 2018.
He has also previously held deputy secretary positions at Austrade and, prior to joining the commission, he was chief operating officer and deputy vice chancellor of Macquarie University.
Between 2003 and 2008, Mr Beresford also held senior roles at Westpac including general manager – strategy, consumer financial services and general manager of Westpac Pacific Business Bank.
AFSA welcomed Mr Beresford to the executive agency in a statement.
“On behalf of the Australian Government, we congratulate Mr Beresford on his appointment and are confident he will lead AFSA with diligence and distinction,” AFSA said.
