The peak body has been forced to reschedule next month’s event.
Originally set to go ahead at the Adelaide Convention Centre from 16-18 February, the SMSF Association’s National Conference will now take place from 20-22 April.
“Unfortunately, the current health landscape and restrictions being enforced due to COVID-19 have made a face-to-face event untenable in February,” a statement released by the SMSF Association read.
“As always, the safety of our members and the broader community remains paramount.
“Public health forecasting suggests many of the current restrictions will have been lifted by then allowing the preeminent event on the SMSF calendar to take place.”
The news comes after deputy chief executive Peter Burgess told ifa that 2022 could be a tricky year to navigate for the SMSF sector as “election years rarely bode well for superannuation”.
“They usually come with promised changes to superannuation that can unnerve the industry and rattle fund members – especially those in retirement,” Mr Burgess said.
“Compounding the situation in this election year is the fact that some important super measures failed to be passed by the Parliament before the summer holiday adjournment. They may still be passed before the election is called, but the odds are lengthening.”
